How to Prevent Ankle Blisters in Trainers

How to Prevent Ankle Blisters in Trainers - Alice Bow

Trainers are shoes of comfort, but they sometimes surprise us with sore ankles - especially when box fresh.

Follow the simple tips below to prevent blisters.  If you would rather see a video version, it's available on Instagram by clicking here.

WEAR A BLISTER PLASTER

Don't wait for the blister to form!  Pop a blister plaster on for the first wear if you are worried about blisters, as the barrier will help one being formed.

SOFTEN THE COUNTER

The "counter" is the hard bit at the back of your shoes that gives shape, so the shoe holds onto your ankles.  It will loosen with time and shape to your foot more, but get it started by giving it a good wiggle with your fingers - esp the section at the top that is most likely to dig in.

TIE YOUR LACES

Loose laces may be a trend, but they're not your ankle's friend!  Tie laces firmly to help minimise movement and rubbing at the ankle.  Still want a loose lace look?  Simply get longer laces and do a double or triple bow to get a bit of lace volume.

RIGHT SIZE

Any shoes that are too big are likely to rub on your ankle.  To help, wear thick socks or pop a pair of Luxe Shearling Insoles.  These insoles will allow you to have bare ankles, whilst keeping toes cosy.

USE A HEEL SUPPORT INSOLE

Our Heel Support Insoles not only provide brilliant comfort under heel, for some people the positioning of their foot with these also helps move the most rub-prone section of the ankle away from the back of the shoe a tiny bit - creating less friction.
