Spring footcare & shoe prep - essential tips for happy feet from Alice Bow - Alice Bow

The sun has arrived! 🌟

There's nothing better than finally shedding those winter layers — but if you're like me, you might feel a bit caught out when warmer weather suddenly appears. My joy at ditching the boots is often offset by my feet still being in winter hibernation — no polish and paler than Casper the ghost!

This year, I somehow got ahead of myself with a pedicure at Margaret Dabbs in Chelsea the other week. Trust me, there is nothing better for happy feet.

Spring means a few adjustments as we move from thick woollies to bare ankles. Here are our favourite Alice Bow tips for putting your best foot forward this season!

1. Book a Pedicure with a Podiatrist

There's nothing like a podiatrist pedicure to get feet summer-ready. Not only does it leave your toes looking lovely, but it also offers a chance to check your foot health and get expert advice before any issues arise. You might love the results so much, you decide to go polish-free!

(Drop a comment below or DM us on Instagram if you'd like a recommendation!)

2. Moisturise Daily to Maintain Your Pedicure

Nothing maintains a pedicure better than daily moisturising. Invest in a cream designed specifically for feet — whether for dry skin or cracked heels. Take it up a notch by using it alongside silicone heel protectors to help lock in moisture overnight.

3. Check Your Spring Shoes for Potential Blister Spots

After a winter cocooned in socks and tights, spring often brings unexpected blisters and rubs as our feet adjust to bare skin against shoes.

Have a look through your shoe wardrobe and try your favourites on again. It's so easy to forget which pairs can cause discomfort until it's too late. If you've held onto gorgeous shoes you know you'll never wear, spring is a wonderful time to donate them to charity. (We support Smart Works, who accept new or lightly worn shoes!)

4. Prevent Spring Shoe Rubs Before They Start

Ease your feet into the season by gradually transitioning to lower denier tights. Start with your most forgiving heels or flats. If you want to jump straight into bare ankles, keep a pack of blister plasters or silicone tape handy. Apply it before a blister appears — think prevention, not cure!

5. Visit Your Local Cobbler for Shoe Adjustments

Your local shoe repair shop isn't just for repairs — they can help your shoes fit better too!

  • Tight at the ball of your foot? Ask for shoe-stretching solution and wear them at home to stretch.

  • Tight at the heel? A hairdryer trick can help soften the fit (video coming soon on our Instagram!) or ask you cobbler to check.

  • Straps uncomfortable? Cobblers can often adjust them.

  • Slippery soles? A stomp on gravel or asking your cobbler to add a non-slip sole can work wonders.
